Saturday Sep 14th: Visit the Orchard and other Freo Gardens

We are lucky in Freo – we have a range of community gardens from large market gardens, a small garden hidden behind a café, gardens selling seedlings to orchards . . . all with passionate and knowledgeable people involved. There will be something to inspire everyone.

So visit your local garden, a few you are interested in or make a day of it and visit them all!

Annie Street Garden on Annie Street (Winterfold Primary School), Beaconsfield  will be open from 8am – 10am

North Freo Social Farm at 10 Thompson Rd, North Fremantle will be open from 8.30 – 12 with tours at 9, 10 and 11am

APACE Community Garden at 1 Johannah St, North Fremantle will be open from 9am – 1pm

East Freo Farm behind Nine Seeds Cafe at 121 Marmion St, Fremantle will be open from 9am – 1pm

Hilton Harvest at Rennie Cres N, Hilton will be open from 9am – 12noon

White Gum Valley Orchard at 96 Samson St, WGV (next door to Hazel Orme Kindergarten) will be open from 1.00pm – 2.30pm

Winter Warmer gathering -Sunday June 23rd 4:30pm

We’re giving the Winter Solstice a new look this year and taking a break on the lantern parade. In the orchard we’ll be putting on a low key gathering to enjoy this time of year and include some orchard tlc. Come on down and have a cuppa around the fire.

 

Pre-Winter Busy Bee -Sunday May 19th 2:30 -4pm

We’re hoping winter rains will be on their way soon so we’re getting the orchard ready with a few tree and shrub plantings and a several other jobs onsite. Come and join us.

Our Harvest is Over! Back to Orchard for a pre-winter busy bee

On Monday May 6th we’ll have a tree care session 8:30-9:30am

On  Sunday May 19th 2:30-4pm we’ll run a busy bee planting and harvesting the last summer crops.

2024 Olive Harvest is on 20/21 April – Register to join a harvest time

Join the 2024 Community Olive Harvest:

  • Saturday 20/4- choose the morning harvest team or mid afternoon harvest mob to harvest olives from the verges of White Gum Valley
  • Sunday morning 21/4 in Booyeembara Park’s Olive Grove (located on Montreal Street near Public Golf Course ), between 9:00am – 12.30pm. Then join a celebratory long-table lunch in the grove (byo lunch or put in $10 for pizza) with live music.
  • Alternatively you can harvest anytime over the weekend at a time / place of your choosing.

Busy bee & Social Sundowner – Sunday March 10, 2024

Join our late summer busy bee followed by a sundowner
    Busy Bee  Sunday Mar 10th. 3:30pm- 5pm
    Sundowner 5 – 6:30pm

A very busy busy-bee with loads of jobs to tackle like oiling timber structures, feeding trees and de-weeding our weedy corner.

Our 10th AGM coming up – Sunday 19/11 3:30pm

Our 10th Winter Solstice Lantern Parade – Saturday 17 June, 2023

Saturday June 17th Winter Solstice celebrations – It’s going to be a beauty!

Lots of activities onsite before the parade from flower crowns, lantern making and earlier in the day ember bowl making (by prior registration).

Then around 5:30 the fanfare of the Parade begins, heading down Nannine Ave.

SUNDAY 30th APRIL 9am – 12:30 in Booyeembara’s Olive Grove, then Harvest Lunch! (byo lunch or buy pizza)   Enjoy live music from the Mediterranean while you harvest!

Enjoy Saturday Sunsets in March in the Orchard

Come down to the Orchard on a Satuday night in March for dinner, a drink, a chat or just a wander through the fruit trees. Orchard Crew will be on-site winding down, sharing some food and having a catch up. If you’ve ever wanted to find out which tree is which (or any other query) this is your chance. An easy community catch up to make and sustain local connections.

BYO instrument for an acoustic open mic / jamming circle.

BYO food & drink, mats & some chairs provided.
